General Sonic The Hedgehog thread

I'm curious to see how the IDW Sonic comic getting a proper Japanese release is going to affect things. Probably not much, but it's a medium where the characters get to show more character over being gameplay elements.

Well, the sad truth, video game developers are not video game writers. As said, these characters mostly served as gameplay functions, and when that ceased...well...here we are.

The Hard Boiled Heavies fit the role of "Treacherous Eggman Robot" better than Metal because one:It's not OOC, two:They don't make Eggman look like a joke for them to look better, Eggman is as much as a menace as they are.

About those videos, meh, i'm not interested in watching them, I can tell from the thumbnail alone it's gonna talk about stuff I heard a billion times and i'm sick of hearing.

Infinite disappointed me a lot. He could of been vastly more interesting but his whole reason for being a villain ended up being immensely pathetic and ridiculously edgy.

The IDW Comics has brought some interesting villains in and new characters in. I wonder what they would of done with Infinite if they got a chance to write him

The weirdest thing about the Deadly Six, to me, is how many of their designs have nothing to do with their fighting styles in their boss fights.

• Zazz throws around a giant bouncy ball, when based on his design, you'd think he'd use a lot of fast melee attacks.

• Zomom actually fits sort of well. He jumps up and smashes things with his weight. It's just the giant rotating head platform that comes out of nowhere. The tunneling also makes sense, since he's presumably just eating the ground super fast.

• Zik does not look like the kind of person who would fight by levitating fruit at you. Not at all. Not even a little bit. The energy blasts make sense, but the fruit is just completely random.

• There is absolutely nothing about Zeena's design that connects her to snow. The fact that she fights Sonic with giant snowmen feels so out of place that it doesn't even feel like the boss fight was made for her, like she and the boss fight were designed completely separately from each other. The energy tether she uses to throw around the snowman head at least looks right, even if it's barely focused on.

• Zor works. The owl mecha is moody and fitting with his personality. His second boss fight, with the shadows, also fits really well, even if he can just be one-shot.

• Zavok works well, too. He's the leader, it makes sense he would ride a mecha dragon-snake, and it at least matches his color scheme and aesthetic, as does the lava scenery. The mecha bridge is a logical extension of his dragon-snake. Growing giant is a bit odd, but he was already the largest and buffest of the Zeti, so it at least fits.

Amy returning to being a Sonic fangirl, Knuckles should be the uber serious guardian, Tails should learn to stand up on his own like the old days, Shadow is a deep character and not an edgelord, blah, blah, yada yada.

Stuff I hear all the time.

Why does it bother you so much if it's a legitimate problem that these characters aren't being represented very well?

Amy's video actually argues against her being just a Sonic Fangirl, pointing out there's more to her than that.

I watched most of those videos myself (the Sonic, Shadow, Silver, and Amy videos).

It really highlights that Amy and Shadow's characters have gone off the rails, and actually points out that Silver and his development is a bright spot in 06 (with only his dreaded boss fight being the sticking point with him for a lot of people).

Can't say much on the Knuckes and Tails vids, but considering this guys's theme of pointing out how the characters are not the one note concepts Sega wants them to be, I can guess what they will be about.

Man, even the joke characters have cool designs!

The hilarious thing about Infinite is how his origin involves a mental breakdown over getting his ass kicked by Shadow yet not once during the main campaign does he ever mention Shadow.

Even nothing is made of the possible implications of the Shadow duplicates, how Infinite can make controllable copies of his nemesis.

The origin is just bizarre.

I tried using Infinite as a password, but it was too weak.

Writer 1: "We want this guy to be the edgiest new bad guy ever, so what if his origin was that the edgiest guy we already have destroyed him in like the most brutal way possible and he swore revenge?"
Writer 2: "But... isn't this game starring Sonic? What's Infinite's motivation to fight Sonic?"
Writer 1: "Because he's evil, duh."

They could of just not explained Infinite's deal at all, left his origin mysterious and he would of probably worked way better as a villain. Of course their was other writing issues with Sonic Forces.

As I said I do generally wonder what IDW could of done with him. They have decent new villains such as Dr. Starline and Mimic.

I really like Tribot's design, I hope they eventually add her to the games. I especially like that her mouth in the same style as Orbot/Cubot is on her midsection, below her arms. That's a really neat design detail that completely changes how you look at her.

The funny thing is you can justify Infinite having an obsession with Sonic by having an awareness through Eggman that Sonic is the only person stronger than Shadow.

So by beating Sonic, Infinite ergo proves he’s stronger than Shadow.

Portray him as an absolute tryhard with that smug exterior masking his inner insanity as extremely fragile & prone to cracking like fine china at the first legimate struggle.

Ignore the prequel comic and Episode Shadow, and Infinite's origins are implied to be completely different.

In stage 29, the characters talk about Eggman creating Infinite there.

Infinite is Eggman's own original character, do not steal.

That's his origin, and i don't care what anyone else says.

That seems like a leftover from an early draft of the game where Infinite was just straight-up created by Eggman.

Oh my god, he really was supposed to be Eggman's own original character.

Since the game contradicts itself with his DLC backstory compared to the main game, where everyone says he was created/built and there's a bunch◊ of empty People Jars I assume it was rewritten pretty late in development.

The speculation is that Episode Shadow was created pretty late into development otherwise having his backstory that has no effect on the main game, being DLC makes no sense.
