Bellatrix later pilots the Excellence Eternal against Harry Potters Excellence Lightning, when she makes contact with him she pleads with him to kill her, since she doesn't know who she is anymore. Remembering Snapes words about Draco, Harry leaves her to go face Voldemort. Instead she fights Neville Longbottom who manages to get her cockpit in a vice grip. However even with 7 years of combat experience under his belt Neville realizes he's still a little kid and can't bring himself to kill her; instead he tears the weapons from her suit and brings her into the custody of Lupin.
That's a good bunch of ideas, actually, and fits well with Neville's character. Sure, no epic momma Weasly moment, but this is more fitting and Neville needs to have a moment to be able to get over his parents.Bella represents the fractured psyche. In the first book she's Merciless and loves violence, in the Second and Third books she has no memory of ever being a pilot and in disguise gets along quite well with the Ace Squadron. In the 4th and 5th Book she's back to her demented self except now the focus is on Sirius' Cybuster. Voldemort hoped he could reestablish the same trauma by pitting the Excellence frames against one another, bringing his killer back.
The most important question has yet to be answered

We'd need bots for them too. Krum: Something really fast, so probably one of the Wild series, or a Krum Custom Guarlion. Cedric: Giganscudo or a Grungust type 1. Ganduro is Neville's, but I don't think it was established that there was only ONE Giganscudo in this universe. Maybe other Hufflepuff aces have them too?
Who pilots the Dygenguard, Daitrombe, and Dai Rai Oh? Maybe some of the older pilots since they would effectively be aces as well?
And they need theme songs. Harry would have Toya's theme Fate, because he is THE BOY WHO LIVED. (Over the Time Flow is good too, as in Lily's love is the one thing protecting him right from the start). Ron: Rushing Dandy. Fuck yeah, Ginger Kai. Hermione: Treue, then Shooting Star when Astelion comes, to mark her character development in accepting that she is not worthless. Ginny: Steel Beowulf, no doubt. Luna: SRW J, Melua's theme. Also ‘Fairy Dancing’. Moon Knights is she gets a hot blood moment. Neville: he strikes me as being similar to Russell, who doesn't have his own theme. I thought Watchdog of Hell would work. Draco: Dark Knight -> Gate of Magus -> Sword that Smites Evil
If Krum is a pure blood, then that means his family line might have an heirloom like Cybuster and Shuroga, he could use Jaohm. Since Sirius might actually be hanging around on the ship in the Cybuster, there could be history where the Krums and Blacks had a contest long ago that lead to the Jaohm being defeated by the Cybuster and the Krum's being forced to admit they simply weren't as good.
Also Krum vs Sirius sky battle.
I'm thinking the same thing for Fleur, she's got Veela blood and that along with her magical heritage lead to her being gifted with a Lord of Elemental. Just to be totally unoriginal she has Goddess.
And if we’re going to complete the Trifecta of Lord of Elementals Cedric could have inherited Zamzeed, a nice heavy armored unit he could use to protect his allies, sets him apart from the other Hufflepuffs and even apart from Nevillle.
Actually speaking of Neville it could be asked if his family had a Lord of Elemental and under much probing he could admit that the Longbottoms had Granveil except the Lord was left battered and broken just like his parents, sarcastically thanking the pressuring student body for reminding him of that.
Could also be a small part of Nevilles development in Book 4, with Goddess, Cybuster and Zamzeed here the only one left in the A Class is Granveil. He feels he simply isn't doing enough for those around him until everyone points out that he took a unit known as the 'Cursed Shield' something no one had ever been able to pilot before and not lead to tragedy, and he was able to use it successfully to help people. A greater talent than simply inheriting a powerful unit.
If Neville has the Gramveil but uses the Giganduro, maybe his final upgrade could be realizing he needs more power to protect those around him, and repairing the machine.
Cho Chang won’t pilot the Fairlion once Luna upgrades to the Vorlent. So Valsione? or maybe she inherits Cedric's Zamzeed in his memory, assuming the machine is still salvagable and works for her (since the Lord of Elementals have a 'will'
Then finally the ministry salvaged the remains of the Cybuster from when Sirius was killed and were repairing it in secret using parts from the Shuroga (which was in much worse condition)
The result is when fighting the ministry, Krum sneaks in and steals the Cybuster.
About Luna's ancestry...
...Xenophilius won't be the Fury Knight - Luna's mother will be, changing her origin story. The "seeing Thestrals" and other weirdness she has are because of her Fury heritage.
Okay, quick question: what would the finisher of Luna's Raflclans be? Sword, Rifle, or Claw?

All 3 finishers is my vote, check whoever posted the 'pilot list' for co-pilots if she'll even have them.
Also as for the 'Great Breaking of Harry Potter' (One friend hospitalized, another captured and turned evil, a very close one missing and presumed being tortured by the muggles to extract magitek from the wizards) Luna constantly talks about how she doesn't have much time left with them. Harry promises that wherever she goes he'll bring her back from because he doesn't want to lose any more friends. Unfortunately the Fury arrive en force. The Fury in this setting is like the Veela, in that they have humanoid forms but are magical creatures. They demand Luna back and threaten to destroy the castle and even though Harry begs her not to go (And Ron literally crawls out of his hospital bed to get to his Gespenst) she smiles wistfully and is taken away.
This leaves Ginny and Neville left, Neville’s already suffering his own break down because he's supposed to be there shield and he's failing them all. As for Ginny no idea.
Also stating again, I don't write any ideas with shipping, pairings or romance in mind.
And then Luna finds out her mother really didn't die and is taking charge of the Fury contingent - they don't need to intervene yet, since most of the conflict is localized. During one of the critical battles between the Death Army and Potter's group, Luna says that her place is there, fighting with her friends, to protect what little there is they have.
Luna's mother is impressed that her little girl has come so far, gives her her personal machine (RAFTCLANS/LAFTCRANZ!) and sends her off.
Cue Luna making a tide-turning appearance in her new machine.
(If this works, then Luna could very well pilot on her own.)
Also have the Raftclans debut against Draco's Thrudgelmir right as he's about to split the Excellence Striker (Lightning Frame isn't ready yet) in half. She Trombe's Gate of Magus away with Moon Knights and matches giant honking sword with giant honking sword.edited 4th Feb '11 6:52:40 AM by Izaak

Of course, if you do, I'd recommend removing the Harry Potter references and changing the names, unless you want to get sued for plagerism.
By the way, are the mecha just Humongous Mecha, or are they also Transforming Mecha and Combining Mecha?

Since it uses SRW mecha, it covers the whole spectrum.
When Bella and Sirius destroy one another’s Elemental Lords Bella screaming "I killed Sirius Black" isn't meant to be a sign of her psychosis or sadistic personality, rather actual shock that she managed to kill 'The Most Dangerous Man Alive' and lived. The victory would have a profound effect on her, dragging up long buried memories of her childhood and forcing her to re-live what made her the woman she is today, this benches her in the Death Army because she is unable to even step inside a Grungust without her memory hitting her like a wave.
Bella and Sirius got along as children and she always expected him to carry on the tradition as Lord Black, however he just didn't want that life and passed up the Shuroga (maybe it's a symbol of being lord of the house) in favor of the Cybuster (which hasn't worked for any Black ever) Regulus was too busy running off to be considered to lead the house so it was up to Bella to carry on tradition.
Thrusting her into the role of leader when all she wanted to do was hang around Sirius (who found himself enlisted in The Marauders, thus they grew farther away) eventually lead the Black Family to Voldemort who had interest in her powers.
After he was done, she is the deranged psychopath who murders everything and anything and derives pleasure from it.
When they fought their final battle in book 5 Sirius wasn't aiming to kill Bellatrix as he felt responsible for the way she was, instead he hoped by destroying the Shuroga he would help cure her. However the destruction cost Sirius his life, lamenting to Snape and Lupin that he messed up big time.
He did however succeed and Bellatrix's mind which had held itself together from the trauma of the Shuroga and Cybuster collapsed turning her into a blubbering wreck and regressing her mentality to that of a 15 year old girl comforting her little cousin who scrapped his knees. Before they could do anything however Voldemort spirited her away.
