The mental gymnastics for Skyrim and Morrowind were simpler to me.
- Morrowind's PC was just taken off a ship and released, given a task to be completed to capitalize on their newfound freedom. No issue if you walk around because you are now a free citizen.
- Skyrim's PC was caught in the middle of an attack by a creature not seen in hundreds of years. Skyrim's law enforcement agencies were understandably busy with the dragon attacks and less focused on some scrub who official reports probably claimed died in a dragon attack. By the time anybody important has even a clue of who you are, you're Shouting ancient magic at them, and revered as the last of a unique race of beings said to be part of an ancient Nord legend.
Oblivion, on the other hand, you're just lucky that the Blades were distracted getting the Emperor out of there. It's unlikely Baurus really had time to go let any of the Guard know that the person running around in prison shackles with the really expensive-looking amulet was cleared by customs. Especially because they weren't. And within minutes of the most prolific assassination in Cyrodil's history - you can walk straight into the seat of Imperial power in the region. I'd of thought they'd be on high alert for suspicious-looking people.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).TBF, it's not a setting with near instantaneous communication and news outreach like real life with social media and what not.
Disgusted, but not surprisedAlso in Skyrim, you weren't even on the list of prisoners to be executed, and almost everyone who witnessed that you were going to be executed died/is a Stormcloak/was helping you eescape. The only one who I'd think might be in a position to do anything against you is Tullius, and he has way bigger fish to fry than one random prisoner between the Stormcloaks and the dragons.
I missed the part where that's my problem.I'm in love with this video and it actually makes me want to replay Morrowind, which I never finished.
Fucking Cliff Racers...
Disgusted, but not surprisedHappy Birthday to Morrowind. I wonder how the Nerevarine's doing in Akavir these days.
Find the Light in the DarkArena and Daggerfall are both now available for free on Steam (albeit both in less than a polished state), as part of Bethesda moving away from their in-house game launcher.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Does a polished state even exist for those? xD
Avatar SourceWell, less polished than they could have been, shall we say. note
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I love how you can make a character topless, hehehe
New theme music also a boxDaggerfall was a pretty risque game. Bethesda would move away from that in Morrowind.
Disgusted, but not surprisedBaby murder!
Avatar SourceYou could make the khajit ladies topless in morrowind...lol.
What mods would you recommend for the PC version of Oblivion? I've tried replaying this a game a couple of times and ended up uninstalling it and all of the mods I had with it. I'm about to try again but I don't want to spend 3-8 hours figuring out which mods overlap, or what overhaul might be best.
I'm not looking for heavy/game-changing mods or entire new areas or massive random encounter mods. Just bugfixes, immersion, quality of life stuff.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Depends on what you need, really. What parts are you looking to fix that you don't like?
"In a move surprising absolutely no one"Something game changing is always a good idea unless you like Oblivion's level scaling and painful minmaxing to not get comparatively weaker as you level are really what you want. Also something to level quest rewards with you; no fun getting something early if it has nice versions up to level 35+
Avatar SourceWell I have mods for fixing the minmaxing and some creature spawns.
Something to make the UI easier to interact with.
Something for companions and to make the world less empty.
I have Blockhead and OB Script Extender. That said, I don't want multi-tiered mods that require 3-7 other required mods to function, or anything that'll easily break the game.
Something that makes classes/basic archetyprs more fulfilling.
Anything to keep Imps and random encounters from feeling stale, but not a "1 hit and you're dead/Dante Must Die/realism" kind of difficulty.
Immersion is the best descriptor I can think of.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).It's been a long time since I did anything with Oblivion. If you've got an item leveller in there, uh...
I think there's something that stops you from drowning in all the expansion pack stuff the instant you step into the sewer. That always made sense for immersion (and not just shoving the best house on you for free).
I liked Midas Magic, for what that was worth. I did enjoy the sheer number of random effects there were and how it gave more things to unlock. Also, Cheese Atronach.
Avatar SourceCheese Atronach? Sheogorath approves.
"In a move surprising absolutely no one"Currently a Level 10 Knight, Champion of the Arena, Fighter's Guild member. While Martin is busy studying the Mystarium Xerxes, I decided to get some side quests done and went to fetch an Ayleid artifact for the Countess of Bruma.
Lifting the Veil is the most frustrating quest in the game so far. You travel some distance to a landmark, have to check your quest item to follow the directions. This part's not too bad except for the intangible wisp enemies that dot the area, sucking away your Magicka and Health in 5-10 second bursts before disappearing into thin air. Literally, they disappear and reappear right next to you.
2 of them spawn near the cave entrance. I decide to skip that and go into the cave where a tribe of ogres await me. Except these aren't normal ogres. These are rocksmashers and they litter the narrow tunnel systems. These ogres like to do this one power attack where they overhead swing at you and completely stunlock me. If I'm not careful they stunlock and kill me in 5-6 hits.
Sure I can rest but the problem is I have to be a certain distance away from the next ogre for that to work. 4-5 dead ogres later I think I'm finally at the end of this dark, murky cavern only to run into a goddamned bear. After this experience a sixth ogre waits for me at the door leading to the outside.
I go outside into pitch darkness. Finally the quest might be over soon except I have to spring all the way to some ruins a good 15 minutes away. Plus there's more ogres. I wait so I can get daylight and actually see what's punching me in the face. 3 dead ogres later I run into a fourth ogre. I'm finally just exhausted and decide to spring past this fool. Cue 3-5 ogres chasing me. I run all the way around them after my bounty and... somehow loop around and go back to the same entrance I came from.
Had to turn the game off tonight because of that.
My weapon is an enchanted Two-Handed Sword that does 15 damage, disintegrates 30 percent of armor, makes target weak to fire, and does 15 pts of fire damage. This is thanks to a mod that allows for modded enchanted weapons to appear in-game more often. Unfortunately I only get 30 uses out of it before its drained. The enchantment ran out long before I got to the third area.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).The FTC forgot to redact the documents it got from Microsoft before making them public, so there's been a lot of leaks. One of these was a release schedule for upcoming games; among these are ES 6 being scheduled for 2024, and a remaster of Oblivion that... was apparently supposed to come out last year.
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.No way that ES 6 is gonna be released next year. We haven't seen more than a teaser like, five years ago.
Oblivion remaster is a very weird idea though. What exactly would it involve? Updating the game to Skyrim-like graphics, or keeping the game mostly the same, just cleaned up? I don't know if I could play Oblivion if everyone didn't look like a misshapen potato.
Besides, it's not like being an ex-prisoner stopped any other Elder Scrolls protagonist. Remember that only the Agent from Daggerfall wasn't a prisoner at the beginning of the game.
Skyrim took it further since not only is the Dragonborn a prisoner, they're about to be executed before Alduin's attack ironically saves them.
The Dragonborn can even join the very faction who were about to execute them.
