1: CHAL(I)CE (Adventure)

2: SUN(S)TONE (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night)

3: DYNAMI(T)E (Double Dragon - this is a bit of a guess, because even though it doesn't seem to appear in stage 1, it's the only 8 letter weapon)

4: GW(A)ELINSLOVE (Dragon Warrior I)

5: MINE(R)SHEEP (Farmville)

6: R(A)IDEN (Final Fantasy 3/6)

7: ZEUS(F)URY (God of War)

8: BODY(A)RMOR (Goldeneye 007 - not 100% sure)

9: CARAME(L) (Katamari Damacy)

10: MAGICSW(O)RD (Legend of Zelda)

11: JEWEL(S)ATELLITE (Mega Man 9)

12: ARRO(W) (Minecraft)

13: POW(E)RPELLET (Pac-Man)

14: OMEGASTA(B)ILIZER (Pikmin)

15: TREAS(U)REMAP (Monkey Island)

16: FROST(M)OURNE (Warcraft III? or World Of Warcraft)

17: TRI(T)ON LEGPLATES (World of Warcraft - again?)

18: ELVISHSWORDOFGR(E)ATANTIQUITY (Zork - heh)

[Note that each matches the number of ?'s exactly.]

The parentheses mark the letter indicated by the number next to each set of ?'s.

Only ones for sure so far.

Note that "load game" means the sequence could happen anywhere in the game, and "new game" means you start from the beginning.

This is really cool...but maybe you should have introduced what the heck this is first, I had to GASP. look it up!

...oh, this is apperently an older thing. Nevermind

I have a strong feeling that 4 is from Dragon Quest. Magicians and slimes are common enemies there, and sleep is a rather useful spell (hence sleep dragon hit dragon hit dragon). But I've no idea what the actual "item" is.

Oh, and 15. Is 15 Zork Grand Inquisitor? Or something?

I've not seen too much of that game, but I remember the beginning involving a pier, and a fish, and a bell...

I think 14 is Pikmin. Forest Navel stage, the mushroom is the Puffstool, and the item is the Omega Stabilizer.

Those are all dragonquest monsters so it could be dragon quest. I THINK it may be Gwaelin's love because you get that from her when you rescue her, and these guides say taht putting the dragon to sleep to save her is a popular option

I misunderstood how the puzzle works, that was my fault :/

I am sure that Gwaelin's Love is the answer to #4 though at least

  1. 6 is RAIDEN

  2. 12 seems to be about Minecraft, and I'm pretty sure the answer is ARROW, as that's the only minecraft craft that uses flint, feathers, and sticks.

<Arha> 17 might be talking about serpentshrine cavern
<Arha> I don't know what the chest they're talking about is though
<Arha> The problem with the SSC theory is that there's only one chest I know of, and it has lots of stuff in it
<Arha> the boss of SSC is a snakelady
<Arha> there's a kraken though
<Arha> it's an optional boss
<Arha> it's not really that important
<Arha> let me look up its loot table
<Arha> see if it drops any pants
<Arha> doesn't drop any
<Arha> anyway the squid would be The Lurker Below if you want to continue that lead, but I'm not sure that's it

<Arha> 1 sounds like Zelda
<Arha> 9 makes no sense to me, 8 sounds familiar but I can't remember why
<Arha> halflife maybe
<Arha> couldn't tell you what the item would be that you get

Inventory command may items in alpha order.

Spreadsheet is now here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AlQeHUt-Z-Y0dEtVR2tjcTFQX1FJekFFSE1oSy11Ymc&hl=en&authkey=CIKi2rsD

I'm working on it with people on IRC.

Zork doesn't use > inv. It uses > inventory.

Adventure does use > inv, however.

It displays the result as such:

>inv
You are carrying:
  a set of keys
  some tasty food
  a brass latern
a small bottle (which is empty)

The items are displayed in the order you last picked them up. For example, here, I picked up the bottle first, and the keys last.

Here is a place to play Adventure, a.k.a. Colossal Cave.

Then maybe that's how we order the items: based on the step in the list in which we got them?

Yikes is right.
The place is Throne of Tides.
The loot has to be Triton Legplates.

So, what do all the letters in () spell?

If it's not the answer, try anagraming it.
