Were All Dead, So Now What

"...We aren't in Hell...A-Are we?" Caleb admitted it to himself. He he really was dead, Hell would be perfect for him. He's be in the 4th level. Lust.

"I just...Okay look. If we really did die...Why would the afterlife look like this? Like our town? We've standing in front of a plaque commemorating us people!"

"A bomb? Who the hell bombs a random High School?"

Her anger didn't hide her sorrow at all. If she was still alive she'd probably be dehydrated at this point.

Etta said something. That's her name? Etta? He didn't hear.

He broke out into a run.

"I'm going home, my parents will fix every-"

THUNK!

It felt like he hit a brick wall. He fell backwards onto his bottom.

"Ow!"

"Nah, we're probably not in hell. You and me should be there loverboy," Etta shrugged, sticking her hands in her pocket and wandering away from the speakers now that her curiosity had been satiated, "Why would it've taken this long for us to get here?"

As the weirdo sprinted towards the sidewalk and bounced off the air, Etta frowned. There went numerous well laid haunting plans.

He stood up.

What the hell did I hit?

He put his hands up and stepped forward. He felt nothing until he was just inches from the sidewalk.

It felt like something was there, but it was just thin air.

"How?"

"Think, Lee," Etta put a finger to her chin, "How'd Flint get in here then? Something's different between us and him. I.E. something like, we're dead."

"...Yeah, I probably will go to Hell, if it's real..." Caleb wondered what Etta did to deserve Hell. Did she have as much sex as he did? Claeb looked over to the boy who fell. He really didn't care about him, but he was in the same situation so he decided to stick around. He was more interested in Etta.

"So..we're ghosts."

"So it would appear," Keeping the finger to her chin she walked blindly past Caleb towards Henry and the sidewalk. It felt different, the air, almost like standing too close to a TV screen as she drew closer to the magic forcefield or whatever it was. Stopping beside the fallen boy she reached out towards the wall. It didn't hurt. She was dead after all. Instead, Etta simply found herself on her ass next to Henry whispering in awe, "Well well well."

Henry turned to Etta.

"'Well well well'? Your taking this rather well, aren't you?" He said in a shocked tone.

Caleb glanced at Etta's ass when he walked past her, enjoying the view as much as he could before she feel. He then attmepted to stand next to Etta and Henry and do the same. "Huh...Guess we really are dead...Now what?"

Eric Gallagher parked his car on the side of the road and made his way to the empty lot. Even though it had been months since the blast had destroyed the school, he still had a hard time comprehending what had happened.

Or how close he'd come to death. If he had gotten back from his doctor's appointment even a minute earlier, he would have died along with his students.

Still, he hadn't escaped unscathed. He was knocked out in the blast, and a random bit of debris had crushed his arm and shoulder. His right arm was still held in a sling even now.

He hadn't even known what happened until his wife told him at the hospital. And then... At first, he couldn't believe what had happened. Then he saw the news broadcasts, the pictures of the wasteland that the school had become...

Eric squeezed his eyes shut, forcing the painful memories back. He had to move on.

"But if that's true," he sighed. "Why do I keep coming back here?"

"Panic never got anyone anywhere but dead," Etta responded automatically, as she dusted off her white jersey. Stopping, running her words back over in her wind Etta allowed a demented giggle, "Well, okay, never mind that. Yes; I'm not terribly put out, Mr. I'm-Gonna-Be-Famous, about my own death."

"Not too happy seeing some people here," She raised an eyebrow at Lee before grinning at him up close, "But I'd have gotten around to something like this sooner or later. Smaller scale though."

Oh, my God, I'm stuck here with a bunch of crazy people.

Henry backed away from Etta and towards Lee.

"Your going to do something, right? You don't believe any of this either?"

Eric jumped, looking to his left in alarm. He relaxed when he saw who it was.

"Oh. Hey, Clyde." He paused for a moment, looking out across the field. "You might be right about that. I'd probably feel better if they actually caught the bastard who did this, but..."

"Well...It kind of sucks that I won't be able to...WAIT. I'm dead. Does that mean I can't have sex, or even kiss girls anymore?...Not cool."

Henry looked at Caleb, the infamous Troperville High Playboy.

"Were dead and your worried about sex?"

An ear twitched as Gallagher the wonder horse started conversing with Flint. Rolling over and standing up again, careful not to get too close the sidewalk again. She listened carefully, managing to here what the two teachers were saying. Curse her reporters instinct, Etta thought, she should be figuring out a way to get out of here... or to traumatize Henry further. Haven't caught the bomber... dad's probably a mess. She filed that little consideration away for the future as she tousled Henry's hair unconsciously, "Do what exactly? People keeping saying do something and it's mighty vague. Other then Caleb. I knew where his mind was."

Giving him a wink, Etta turned her back to the teachers to pay more attention to the monument. Strolling easily towards the bronze plaque, classy. Momentarily ignoring her fellow... ghosts, yeah ghosts, Etta scanned the names for one in particular.

Caleb smirked, facing Etta, but speaking to Henry. "I'll always be worried about sex. Even in the afterlife, buddy."

"Oh, brother." He rolled his eyes as he turned away from Caleb and Lee to Etta.

"If we really are dead, what the hell do we do now?"

"Hey. I didn't realize there would be a get-together today." Lucas said as he suddenly walked up behind Eric and Clyde.

"Wanna try possessing one of the work crew?" she suggested cheerfully without tearing her smirking face away from the list of names. They were arraigned alphabetically but she wanted to make sure not to miss it. So it took a little bit before she was satisfied that her name wasn't there.

Etta wasn't sure whether to be relieved or furious. Now that the excitement was wearing off a long dead part of her personality fittingly resurrected itself for a moment. Of course Etta was happy she wasn't trapped here with them. Or laughing at Etta from heaven. No, she was alive. That meant there was still something Etta could do. One way or the other. Turning around, she leaned back against the supporting stone with a sigh, "They spelled my name wrong."

Great. The golden boy is here.

Henry watched as Lucas walked past them to the teachers.

"Um, sorry?" He looked at Etta, shrugging.

"Doesn't mean anything anyway. Well hey you're right; if it isn't Blast Hardcheese," Etta watched the Lucas approach both teachers. The school's man of the hour looked appropriately somber for visiting the scene of the explosion. Whatever he had to say however, was beneath her current interest. Passing Trent off as a meat headed athlete was easy to enough to do, but she'd actually interviewed him a few times for the paper... and knew that while he wasn't quite as dumb as he seemed.... there wouldn't be anything to learn from him.
