Like some sorta tag team fighter like DBFZ? I mean yeah making it like Tekken or SC is cool and all but you got iconic special moves to take into account that don't really work in a 3D fighter.

Playing Tales of Vesperia for the first time and having no real issues so far...until I'm having to detour through some woods and get attacked by a wolf like creature and its brood among flower-plants that disable you. Did anyone else just feel the difficulty spike right about here? I still can't beat this thing after 3 weeks.

If it's the wolf I'm thinking of it's so infamously hard there were rumours it was bugged and used the level scaling from the demo rather than its proper level, so no, it's not just you.

Yeah that thing's nasty. If you just want to get past, you could always turn the difficulty down to easy and then change it back later. It's a long time until something that hard comes up again.

...unless you're already on easy, in which case that wouldn't work. :P In general, it helps to take out the smaller wolves first, but I can't suggest much else besides going in with as many items as you can carry.

Oh, I went in with full items and my idiot AI friends use them up like dolts in the first 2 mins of battle. I end up with 0 life bottles and no gels when the boss still got 3000 hp left or something. This wolf is making me not want to play much further. But good to hear that this is an anomaly rather than the norm for this game. Did they even play test?

Well obviously not if one of the above posts is any indication.

i guess vesperia isn't as perfect as fans act like it is amirite

There should be something in the options menu that lets you stop your allies from using items by hitting a button before they do it. If there's a way to turn it off entirely, I haven't found it.

Changing the difficulty is still an option.

I think there's an option to not allow AI to use items. But that will stop them from using them at all, not just restrict what they do use.

Yes, there is an option to stop the AI from using items by themselves. The mechanic appeared first in Tales of Abyss. I never let the AI put its dumb hands on my items: wasting life bottles when the healer can revive or meleers eating TP gels when they can just attack normally to regain them.

Putting the game on Easy makes the enemies take a penalty in Levels, but since Gattuso is TEN levels higher than it should be... the problem would be mitigated but not totally solved. Be sure YOU are at least lvl 20.

If you just want to beat the boss and move on it should NOT be that hard. Play defensively until the small wolves are dead. Gattuso's super armor (due to its stupid Level overdose) make him be unfazzed when you smack him, so meleeing him is always dangerous.

No, the real kick in the balls is trying to get the Secret Mission on your first run. This motherbuzzer has one of the top 5 most annoying Secret Missions in the whole game, up there with BOTH bosses in the Disc 2 Final Dungeon. It's outrageous.

The secret mission is sucky because the description makes it sound like you just gotta stun it with the spores from the plants but that's not enough, you also gotta knock it down for it to count and not only does the bastard have super armour but its way too ambiguous which moves will knock it down and complete the secret mission. In the end I got lucky with Azure Edge into Raging Blast.

In comparison, knocking Zagi off the boat is a piece of Pillsbury Doughboy piss.

Gattuso, that's the annoying wolf boss! I'm still stuck on him 3 months later. It totally killed my interest in this game playing further and now it feels like a chore coming back to try him 'one more time.'

Well they got these free level up DLC thingies. But I'd probably use those as a last resort, obvs.

Plus the secret mission I mentioned above

Yeah same. He's definitely hard but perfectly doable if you know the game's mechanics.

Kill the small ones, assign Rita's magic to quick select (Gattuso is weak to either Fire Ball or Splash, I can't remember which), and always approach from the side. That's how I deal with him.

Not saying he's easy or anything, he's definitely way too hard for the part of the game he's in.

I've heard he's the hardest boss in the game but I don't know how true that is.

I found him annoying but not super bullshit hard like so many say. Then again I liberally used the level up DLC and was gunning for the secret mission.

I didn't find him difficult but I was playing co-op, and of course he's going to be easier with two players rather than the AI trying and failing to properly utilize Rita.

That stupid pirate fucker, on the other hand, was hell trying to do the secret mission even with two of us.

[up] 'Pirate' boss? Can you elaborate? (the one on the ghost ship? I recall it not being particularly difficult... neither of the 2 times you have to fight him.)

Ok, so for our distressed fellow troper: are you properly leveled? (20 or higher.)

Are you properly equipped? (best available gear.)

Are you properly stocked? (gels and bottles.)

Finally, is your team properly... 'strategized'? The Strategy menu is important so that your mates don't behave stupidly. Put your mages as far from the fray as possible and ditch Karol for Repede, at least for now: the kid is too slow to chase those wolves around.

I remember certain youtuber playing Vesperia recently. I checked his videos ocassionally, but not once, in all the boss fights I have witnessed, have I seen him open the Strategy menu. And he always wins by the nick of his teeth, usually just after the bosses use Overlimit to obliterate his party, forcing him to spam items until they are back on their feet. A Tales Series god he ain't...

So in conclusion: do all of the above and learn to use Overlimit defensively. The insta-casting can be used to spam Nurse to save you from certain doom, and spam certain spells to lock strong but lone enemies. The unlimited arte chaining helps in racking big combos... which translate into Bonus Exp and Grade.

There is a lot to this game. [tup] Don't give up on this gem.

People don't even know how to change Vesperia DE's font, you really think they noticed the strategy menu?

No it was some dude, I don't remember much more than he was one of Alexei's lackeys and stole a blastia I think? Midgame Vesperia is really hazy in my mind.

Yeah no it wasn't a ghost pirate. Just some asshole with a lot of summoned lackeys and a secret mission where you needed to keep pillars lit up while he rushed your healers like an asshole.

Did he have a chainsaw for an arm? I think that's Barbos, the boss of Act 1.
