Any player can and should be playable in a fighter game. After all, I don't see anybody complaining about Mew Two appearing in games. A psychic so powerful he can raze buildings just by being angry. Take Ganondorf. At the end of the first act of Oo T, he conquered the world and turned it into a desolate wasteland devoid of hope. His magic was so powerful that he could never truly be defeated, only sealed away for time untold. I still think he was done right by fighter game standards.

Like I said, he was done right by fighter standards.
Well, what sort of moveset would you give Ridley?
Okay, fine, you have one interpretation. I hold the Memetic Badass interpretation.
Then give me Simon Belmont first.

"Wait a sec, so you say that Ridley is so badass for you that you don't want to play as him?"
Yes. Because I can't actually be as badass as he is.
What of the chozo-metroid-human hybrid bounty hunter that single handedly hands Ridley his own ass every time they cross paths. Clearly she is too badass to play as... Oh wait.
Or any other character in Smash Bros for that matter. Even Luigi.
Well, Samus is Ridley's one weakness. Plus, she is a main character, so she gets exempted.
No, Ridley's weakness is missiles. Lots and lots of missiles.
No, they just deal normal damage. You still have to pelt him with lots and lots of missiles to kill him.
Ooh, one of the things I hoped for Metroid: Dread. I hoped that Samus would actually see a space pirate cloning chamber... a space pirate cloning chamber full of incomplete Ridley clones. I'm not a story-teller so I dunno ow to get her into or out of that situation, but whatever it would be cool.
You want MORE clones?
Yes. I also want Samus in such a situation where she can't do anything about it. She has to leave knowing that the space pirates have, are and will continue to clone Ridley in the future.
How is boss Ridley badass in any way? He's pathetically easy, limited to very few attacks, and he'll never get any stronger. He's pretty much a Master Hand clone. And Meta Ridley is even more of a joke (Other than the ridiculous difficulty of getting his trophy).
Whereas absolutely any character, including a playable Ridley, can be badass. Just watch some combo videos; even weaker characters like Pichu (Melee) or Ganondorf (Brawl) can kick ass.
Although I'd personally prefer Dark Samus, as I would love to see how they could integrate mechanics like her clone ability or her ability to transform into particles. And if you think Dark Samus has to be a Samus clone gameplay-wise, you haven't played a game with Dark Samus in it. [/smashdiscussion]
Also, Kirby is able to infinitely float in most of his games.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.That's floating, not actually flying—especially not at high maneuverability.
Also, I haven't fought Ridley in a Smash game so I don't know what he's like there. But IIRC he puts up a damn good fight in Super and Prime.
Ah well, Metaknight and Charizard still fly anyway.
My favorite Ridley fight is... I really can't decide.
- Super Metroid had a difficult and vicious battle that required mastery of the controls to beat.
- Metroid Prime's battle was unique, intense, and the grounded part was pretty awesome.
- Prime 3 had two Ridley battles, and I like them both. The first one was the Balrog-esque battle, which was a unique perspective. The second one, Omega Ridley, receives a lot of flak from fans, but I love how puzzle-like the battle is.
- Other M's Ridley battle felt like a good old fashioned brawl.
But yeah, Ridley's always fun to fight in Metroid. In Smash? He's either an uninspired Master Hand clone or an easy-as-hell pest with annoying moves and a ****ING HARD TROPHY TO GET.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.I agree with Ridley being playable.
Summary: I don't want Ridley to be playable because making him thus would get rid of his Memetic Badass status.
YMMV obviously.
If characters like Captain Falcon, Pichu and Jigglypuff can create and sustain memetic badassery through SSB, characters like Ridley should have no problem.
No one cares about Pichu.
Jigglypuff and Falcon have their memetic badassery in part through comedy—Jigglypuff through Beware the Nice Ones and Falcon through simply being over-the-top. Ridley's memetic badassery is different.
Wow. You come off as really condescending for some reason. I can promise you that if Ridley were playable, I would play as him until I was as badass as the game would allow. Chraracters like that make me aspire to be as good as they are in their own games. Its one of the reasons I never lose as Mew Two in Melee.
Do I? If so, my apologies.
You seem to be a fellow player who, like me, cares about flavor and enjoyes it influencing gameplay. So I think you're a pretty cool guy.
Why don't we just chalk it up to a difference of opinion?
Dedede and Bowser are degraded villains anyway. The only one that is comparable is Ganondorf, and I don't know the Zelda series well enough to say whether he should be a playable character.
