Hmm, I've fallen into a terrible trap. I've done a number of write-ups for various characters in short succession (Wriggle, Byakuren-but-aborted, Seiga-cause-I-have-insomnia, Sakuya-cause-she-looked-like-she'd-win, and now Mokou) and realized that they're all exactly the same and kind of stupid. I greatly greatly overuse this whole repeated line thing and overall it seems I'm trying to write poetry or something. Bad poetry. Looking back at my entries that generated good reviews, those were the ones that we least like that. Less poetry, more infodumping.

Why has no one slapped me yet?

Of course you can see my work, I post them in this thread. I've been doing it for months now. About 2/3s of them use the same gimmick. I just hadn't stopped to look at it until I wrote a bunch of them in a row.

I'm not gonna post write-ups for discussions that haven't started yet. I just get the feeling I've been phoning it in...

Maybe we should have a Best of Clarste/Roast of Clarste recap.

I didn't intend to derail this thread, I just wanted someone to slap me over the internet. I deserve it, just take my word for it. That's the last I'll say about that.

Returning to the subject at hand, we don't need separate animations for everyone getting hit by Wriggle. No. That's where I put my foot down.

There might be other characters with attacks that trigger an "Augh, OH GOD!" reaction from their opponents. In that case, the only special animation for that attack would be when you hit another Wriggle.

All you really need is to trigger the other character's flinch animation, or whatever you call it (like the one where Cirno has her hands up and she has a look of shock on her face), and overlap a swarm-of-bees sprite on top of it.

Also, since you asked for it (literally): *slaps Clarste*

The special animations for specific attacks remind me of Darkstalkers and how their sprite set was so good and Capcom was so lazy, they reused it for years.

Wriggle is not Q-Bee. She's much cooler than that.

You just have to start the line with "[ == ]" (but without the intervening spaces).
