I have a bunch of folders that are just New Folder, New Folder(1), New Folder(2), etc. Seriously, I have several gigs of I don't even remember anymore because it's just so old. Nice thing about SSD is that you don't have to defrag every few months.

Oh, no. You would drive me nuts if I ever looked at your computer. Finding a bunch of "New Folders" on people's drives makes me all twitchy and irritable.

Another pet peeve is "Shortcut to Shortcut to Shortcut to Shortcut to Desktop", usually caused by incorrectly drag-clicking an icon.

Most of my data is game data on Steam. I made a purge some time ago because I had almost filled by 2TB hard drive.

Most o' mine be rum, booty, and other piratey stuff.

Well, it's usually more like "Shortcut to Desktop", "Shortcut to Desktop (2)", "Shortcut to Desktop (3)", and so on. I think older versions of Windows did it differently, though.

My files are fairly well organized, which means I know exactly where the five-year-old Power Point presentations are.

I don't get why some of those powerpoints are so ridiculously huge. What on earth do people put in them?

Images and videos, especially if PowerPoint saves them uncompressed, which used to be the case (I don't know if it still is). Bitmap (.bmp) images in particular can be enormous, and older versions of Windows and/or Office would use those as the default format for images taken with PrintScreen and Alt-PrintScreen.

I recently found out that I have a folder named "old" on my hard drive. It contains all my stuff from my old drive from 10+ years ago, including all those funny pictures and crappy quality videos I used to save there (before YouTube, you know). And there are some school and university stuff. That made me nostalgic. It hides really well as it's less than 10 GB.

My father gave me my first flash drive when I had a class presentation with some large 300ppi scans that were each on their own too big for a floppy. Yes, it was like 2005 and floppies still seemed like the best way to carry files around.

Just make sure to back up your save files. You can't redownload those.

Steam Cloud works for many games. Others save your save files and settings to somewhere that's not deleted when you uninstall the game. There are some that delete your saves if you uninstall, though.

Also, it's just Steam. I don't know how other systems work.

Steam usually asks you if you want to keep your save files on the Cloud when available.

Unrelatedly, I wish there was a way to reset Steam achievements...

Why would you want to do that?

And obviously they are not going to do that, since Steam achievements are tied into competitions and collectibles and stuff, apparently.

IIRC there is a way to reset them, it's pretty much a hack and against ToS but as long as it's only used to reset achievements Valve tends to look the other way (or at least, used to when the page I once read about that was written).

Actually I want to reset those of some games I have because I'm not the one who got them. Back when me and my brother used the same account to play certain games. And sure, they're not hard achievements to get, but it feels wrong for them to not technically be mine. XD
