No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

So after my trip to Warhamer Fest last week I am trying to talk myself down from starting a Guard army.
(Well that and building a set of Guardsman armour for giggles.)
"Yup. That tasted purple."Lucky. I had been planning to go this year but real life issues meant that I didn't like to take another weekend off work. There is always next year I suppose.
Then again a Guard army isn't the best idea when I can't paint faces worth a damn.
"Yup. That tasted purple."You could always do a full Tempestus force and use their full helms. The Specialist Tempestus Drop Force Detachment from Imperium Nihilus: Vigilusn Defiant seems quite cool (I've added it to my verly long and growing list of forces I'd like to build).
But yeah it does feel like just about everyone featured in the 1d4chan THIN YOUR PAINTS gallery paints better than I do.
I'm also still trying to work out how much I should be eye-rolling at the whole "One Thick Coat" joke from the new Contrast range.

"Yup. That tasted purple."As long as a model looks reasonable from around 4 feet+ away its fine. I'm not great at faces (particularly the eyes) either.
As I've demonstrated before, my painting isn't brilliant◊.
"Yup. That tasted purple."There's a part of me that's keen to try out the Contrast paints on some of the kits I either haven't started building yet or have built but haven't primed yet, and there's a part that just wants to stick with my airbrush and normal paints...kinda torn.
I never did get around to investing in an airbrush.
Mainly because I do all my crafting in my bedroom.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I've never used an airbrush myself, my experience with technology means I don't want to risk it.
I may try the Contrast paints on a small squad, if only to see if it can speed up the glacial pace of my painting.
It took me an hour to build and paint one of those regular jetbikes and its rider back in the day. I get the feeling the Contrast range might help there.
"Yup. That tasted purple."It generally takes me a couple of days to paint a single miniature to my basic standard, usually more. I think my record was a Chaplain in around 4 or 5 hours but that was by doing nothing else
Personally I think the Death Korps would be one of the easiest Guard Armies to paint. You paint gas masks and greatcoats, no faces involved XD
True. £300 for a single platoon is a bit steep though.
GW demands your money...but failing that, it will take a bit more of your time instead. The two are just synonyms anyway.

I'd have to go Death Korps if I ever dip into Guard. They just look so good.

Same. Plus I've always had a thing for World War I-style warfare. The mix of styles, the tactics and stories involved in trench warfare, the nations involved...
Straight Silver, for instance, is my favorite Gaunt's Ghosts book xD

I'm really frustrated with how they're handling Kill Team. The main box game was long gone before I took interest, so the only version of the rules I can get is digital only. Now they're phasing out all of the pre-elite boxes entirely.
The Kill Team Starter was always meant to be a limited release, with the core rulebook being the way for people to get into the game after that.
Old Kill Team boxes are also just the same kits you're able to buy separately (other than the sprue of included scenery), so you should still be okay (cards and tokens are hardly mandatory).
I think you'll be okay!
I may have missed the alternative, but the book is only available in digital. I genuinely hate that.
Interesting, it doesn't show up if you search, but shows up if you go to the Kill Team section.
Gasp! You have earned my genuine appreciation.
It's definitely strange that it doesn't show up if you type 'kill team' into the Search bar.
Truly, we have stumbled upon some internet Warp fuckery.
The latest Battle Sister Bulletin is about the heavy weapon equipped Retributors
Many of you may remember that when we first announced that we were working on a new Adepta Sororitas range, we showed you a few early examples of their weapons and wargear – including a certain heavy bolter◊.
Well, here it is again, this time being borne by a Retributor in all her glory!◊
The Battle Sisters of the Adepta Sororitas are traditionally armed with a bolter, flamer, or melta weapon – known to their Orders as the Holy Trinity. In the case of Retributors, who specialise in providing fire support, this means carrying either a heavy bolter, heavy flamer or multi-melta. In addition to multiple options of each weapon type and a Sister Superior to lead them, the Retributors will have a number of head options, including bare, helmeted, or ones equipped with rebreathers – all of which have their own additional flourishes of detail. For example, the full helm of the Retributor shown above has a built-in targeter for accuracy.
However, if you prefer your heretics chargrilled rather than perforated with heavy bolter rounds, chances are you’ll be looking to equip your Retributors with a heavy flamer or two. Check out this alternative build that can be assembled from the kit…◊
The heavy flamer’s twin nozzles have been designed in the style of Gothic braziers, matching the vehicle exhausts and other similar details we’ve seen so far across the new range. Nuances of design such as these not only help to unify a miniatures range, but reinforce its own unique identity. In the case of the Adepta Sororitas, this principle is especially important, as they’re one of many military institutions within the Imperium and their Battle Sisters utilise weapons and wargear that are common among them.
Armorium Cherub
That’s not all! The new kit is also set to include a brand-new feature in the form of an Armorium Cherub◊.
The (cute?) little winged creature is carrying a fuel canister for a heavy flamer. After all, nothing ruins a good purge like running out of promethium before you’ve burnt all the heretics!
The new range is still looking good.
