• Audience-Alienating Era: This episode is considered to be part of the beginning of the end for the 1980s cartoon show, along with The Smurfs That Time Forgot. For the remaining episodes, Papa Smurf and the other sixteen Smurfs are mostly seen dealing with ancestors of Gargamel, Azrael, Scruple and Hogatha.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The beginning starts off fine with Papa and Grandpa choosing to assemble the time crystals by hand, then resorts to just a string of gags. The episode doesn't pick up until the second half where Greedy is smurfnapped by the mother bird, resulting in the plot: the Smurfs rescue Greedy.
