  • Mr. Burns swallows a comically small cellphone, at a time it was thought mobiles would eventually become microscopic. Years later, with the rise of smartphones and touchscreens, the trend reversed into larger phones.
  • There's also a throwaway gag about iPhones being discounted to 20 cents. When the episode first aired in 2007, iPhones were seen as newfangled novelties with limited carrier support, and sales were sluggish. Their eventual success was a big factor in wiping out the market for the aforementioned microscopic phones.
