YMMV / The Merlin Trilogy

Go To

  • The Woobie:
    • Most characters go through a lot, but a particularly egregious case is Arthur. By the end of the fourth book, he has lost his wife (after the first one died in childbirth), his best friend, his nephews, and his son, whom he killed and by whom he was slain. And it's made worse by the fact that, unlike in the original version of the legend, in this version Mordred is not a traitor and it's all the result of a tragic misunderstanding.
    • Also Gaheris's lover in The Wicked Day. She barely appears, but when she does she is living in poverty and then her lover abandones her and dies, leaving her pregnant, alone and with no means to fend for herself. Mordred straight up thinks she'd better drown her newborn baby as soon as she gives birth, as there is no way her situation can get better.
