- Awesome Music: While it doesn't exactly fit the horror of the situation the protagonists find themselves in, the replacement score by Gerald Fried is pretty damn inspirational.
- Nightmare Fuel: Just imagine yourself in the protagonists' shoes: you're stranded in a remote location with diminishing food supplies and facing the possibility of starving to death, and the only solution to your dilemma is cannibalism. The fact that the film does not shy away from the gruesome bits doesn't help, nor does the fact that it's Based on a True Story.
- Special Effects Failure:
- The plane crash is simulated rather badly. Aside from incorrectly portraying the aircraft hitting the ground intact, the model used in the scene is obviously hollow with nothing inside. To say nothing of the obvious fake snow.
- Even with the added optical effects, it's very easy to tell that the survival scenes have been filmed within the comfortable environment of a soundstage rather than in the sub-zero conditions of the Andes.
