YMMV / Pokemon S 4 E 21 The Grass Route

• Broken Aesop: The moral is supposed to be Ash lost to Ephram because he didn't train for the tournament but Bulbasaur lost solely because Skiploom got lucky and learned Solar Beam after being pounded by Bulbasaur.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: At one point Jessie commands Meowth (disguised as Sunflora) to perform a "Scratch Fake Out" on Bulbasaur. Not only does Fake Out become an official attack in Generation 3, and even works the same way as in the episode, but it is part of the Meowth line's movepool.
• Informed Wrongness: Ash is apparently in the wrong for defeating Ephraim's Skiploom with Chikorita and "badly injuring" it. That's it. This is ignoring the fact that Ephraim challenged him and Skiploom isn't in any worse condition than any other Pokémon Ash has defeated. On paper, Ash even holds the disadvantage by using his least experienced Grass Type yet the mere act of winning is apparently something to be ashamed of because you may have hurt your opponent's Pokémon...even if yours is technically weaker.
