• Alternative Character Interpretation:
  • Some have suggested that Bulbasaur not wanting to evolve is at least partly because it saw how Charmander underwent a dramatic personality change for the worse after evolving into Charmeleon and later Charizard, and was afraid it might undergo a similar change.
  • Does the Venusaur really come to understand why Ash's Bulbasaur doesn't want to evolve? Or is it a case of not understanding, but respecting the decision anyway?
• Applicability: Bulbasaur's situation is surprisingly applicable for a lot of real-life people, even though the conflict is him not wanting to evolve. The most obvious is someone trying to force their lifestyle upon others who don't want to live that way, but there are also interpretations of it being applicable to growing up with strict parents who expect you to follow their every word regardless of your own feelings and/or growing up with a different sexual orientation/being transgender and those around you trying to 'fix' you.
