YMMV / Not Like Everyone Else

• Fridge Brilliance:
  • The setting is very close from another series treating fundementalism's one, The House of Night's, namely.
  • Brandi's brother is really unkind to her for most of the film. Why? It would have been better to show him as another victim of intolerance, just a more sympathetic one. But then, the viewers ready to attack Brandi's character for being too dark may have used him as a more sympathetic counterpart to Brandi's mysterious and dark self, and would have argued that him being his father's favorite and his not being shunned were evidence that she was at fault for her problems. Making her brother unsympathetic and more well-accepted (at least apparently) proves two things: first, that Brandi's personality is not to blame, and that her father's preference for her brother is due to her gender (and lack of understanding).
