  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • How much of Aizawa's insistence that he's practicing Tough Love is him Believing His Own Lies? How much is Sunk Cost Fallacy? Does he recognize the wedges he's driven into Class 1-A, or the role he's played in bringing out the worst in his students? Does he care?
    • Did Kyouka apologize to Izuku because she sincerely regrets mistreating him, or is her guilt a more generalized thing? Does Izuku's suggestion that she's apologizing more because she doesn't want to get into trouble for her actions at the USJ hold any merit?
  • The Scrappy: Most of the characters in the story are hated by the audience, especially Aizawa, for being massive assholes who discriminate against Izuku for his quirklessness and for pointless, petty reasons. Most of Izuku's classmates are hated for similar reasons, such as Kyouka, who left Izuku to die at the USJ.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: A common complaint is that pretty much everyone in the story is a Jerkass. Most of the cast who interact with Izuku hate him for reasons beyond his control. Aizawa is even more hostile towards Izuku than Bakugou is. And Izuku is spiteful towards almost everyone because they hate him.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Izuku's classmates hate him and his teacher is blatantly hostile towards his existence. Despite this, it's hard to sympathize with Izuku as, rather than try to smooth things over, he just acts like a Jerkass towards pretty much everyone. Not to mention being self-absorbed to the point he doesn't even recognize some of his classmates after weeks of knowing them. While the other students are unfair to him and frequently throw the first metaphorical punch, he doesn't even try to change their minds or adjust their opinions, preferring instead to just use it as an excuse to whine about them.
    • Kyoka breaks down crying while apologizing to Izuku for her actions at the USJ. But she still wanted to leave a concussed classmate to die simply because his refusal to bow to Aizawa's prejudice led to her suffering an expulsion scare. Kyoka claims she did it because "she was so scared" but her immediate reaction to finding Izuku bleeding from the head and unable to stand was to calmly say "Alright, let's go" to the rest of the group. After she's guilt-tripped into helping and Kaminari wanders off, she kicks Izuku in the groin for telling her to stop shouting when more villains might hear them.
