• Nightmare Fuel: The entire show seems to be based around this; pitch black areas, performing Satanic rituals, being left alone in locked rooms for hours on end, listening to strange noises, etc. Many contestants quit upon simply hearing what their challenge was, let alone approaching the room it was in. Mina Dos Estrellas is notable for being the only location that caused the entire team to quit, forcing MTV to gather another team to pick up where that team left off. It didn't help that the local legend wasn't based on ghosts, like the other episodes, but rather on something that could kill them.
• Tough Act to Follow: Arguably a reason why MTV never made a show like it: Fear was often looked at as MTV's best show that focused on horror nor was something like Daria, The Real World, or even TRL. So following its closure, MTV never tried another series similar to what Fear did.
