• Alternate Character Interpretation: Given Beatrice is overly enthusiastic and somewhat possessive with Pony since episode two of season one (also titled “Beatrice”), her presence in “Teacher’s Pet” suggests her obsession hasn’t faded. Though not directly suggested, one could assume Beatrice overheard Henrietta confronting Annie and Pony and forbidding the latter from being at school. Beatrice then would sneak Hamburger, the class pet hamster to her locker, knowing Hamburger’s absence would create a vacuum Annie would be more than happy to fill in with Pony as the new class pet. To Annie’s dismay though, Pony cannot leave the school on weeknights and is subject to being in the weekend care of students who have signed up to take him in on Saturday and Sunday. Sometime during Pony’s first or second day as class pet, Beatrice booked herself to care for Pony on weekends for the remainder of the semester. And while Annie and Beatrice are friends, Pony is more hesitant and wary of Beatrice given her excited and more uncomfortably squeezy approach with animals. The episode ends when with the audience learning that Beatrice was giving Hamburger some privacy in her locker so the hamster would deliver her young. Though it is never stated Beatrice had an ulterior motive to spend more time with Pony by relocating Hamburger, the elements of the episode seem to make such an aim plausible for Beatrice to devise. The only other possibility is that Beatrice took advantage of Pony being the new class pet with no secondary purpose for abducting Hamburger the hamster to begin with.
