• Esoteric Happy Ending: The text ends with the Britons defeating the Saxon. However, those familiar with history will know that the Saxons will return and crush the Britons.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The Britons can seen as this during the section talking about Roman rule. Basically, the Britons fight Roman rule to the point of killing any Roman officials sent to rule over them yet still feel entitled to Rome's protection against the Scots and Picts.
