YMMV / Elsewhere (2005)

  • Heartwarming Moments: The epilogue where Liz is reborn into a new family. On some level it's a Foregone Conclusion but it's still very happy to see that even though Liz won't be Liz anymore she'll get a second chance to live a full life.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The whole book is filled with them and it starts at the central premise. A 15-year-old girl dies just as she was excited to grow up and live her life. She wakes up in the afterlife only to find she'll have to go backwards not forwards and she'll never be able to fully experience what she always wanted.
    • A part near the beginning where Liz's dreams that Elsewhere was just a crazy dream she had while in the hospital recovering from the car crash. Liz dreams of the life she always wanted, getting her own car, going to MIT and then veterinarian school at Florida, and meeting a nice boy...and then Betty wakes her up.
    • The Final few chapters where Liz and Owen begin to get younger and younger. And as they get younger they lose more and more intelligence and memories to the point where Liz can't read anymore in what's clearly a metaphor for Alzheimers.
