• Diagnosed by the Audience: Carter is aggressive, extreme, and impulsive, which seems to stem from a combination of borderline personality disorder and ADHD. Several characters so far have commented on this behavior, but Carter himself has not indicated that he knows what causes it. Within the span of one chapter, he goes from defending Scott, to hating him, to being friends with him, and in Java Bonds, Leo tells Henry that Carter, who is sixteen at the time, is constantly looking for one night stands (at parties and online) and possibly getting himself into increasingly dangerous situations. He also gets drunk often and lies about his age to his partners. Leo also does not know what specifically is going on, but he says that "something in [Carter's] head is definitely really out of whack." Likely a Justified Trope as Carter has probably never sought out diagnosis.
  • Similarly, Reuben appears to be autistic which is not confirmed in-universe but widely speculated on by readers.
