  • Informed Wrongness: Mary's Calling the Old Man Out moment to Jacob. While it was understandably intended to depict Jacob as Unintentionally Unsympathetic, it can be seen as this as well for Mary. Yes, Mary is correct that she lost the same people that Jacob did and is taking it better than he is. However, Mary was very much an innocent passive victim of circumstances in which none of the tragedies in their family were her fault. Jacob can't quite say the same thing and he is well aware of that. (That and Mary's statement about her going through the same tragedies as Jacob is not entirely true as there is Beth who became Alice; Jacob blames himself for not saving her back then.)
    • However, Mary does feel like she lost a potential sister in Alice since her mother had her declared legally dead as Beth when she fabricated evidence that skull fragments of Beth were found while she was being held captive by the Cartwrights. Plus, Mary met a doppelgänger of Alice who was never kidnapped thus never lost her sanity, even admitting to Kate after meeting this Beth she could see why Kate wanted to save the version she grew up with up until their point of separation. Plus, Mary did lose her actual sister, Kate, after they had just started developing their sisterly relationship. Mary has been part of the Kane family ever since she was nine and during her childhood after that point, the loss of a sister she never got to know affected her as Mary admitted this season because "[she] was always the last daughter to have Jacob's attention." (The memory of Beth was always at the forefront of his mind while Kate came second as a reminder of his first family.)
