  • Awesome Music: Mike Morasky returns to give us "Requiem Ad Immortali", which serves as a dark response to and foreshadowing of Cara Mia Addio. It plays during the credits, where Cave wordlessly laments his state of endless life, with the proto-turrets eventually coming into harmony with him to create a grand, yet dark piece.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The giant robot head of Cave Johnson is rather unsettling to look at once you shoot off its clay covering.
  • Tear Jerker: This game offers an ultimate fate for Cave Johnson in its alternate universe: He was uploaded into a computer, but his robot body was crushed under the size and weight of its head. Combined with him having a bout of temporary insanity after the upload that caused him to kill the people who built him, causing the engineers to leave him alone in fear of their own safety (a decision he soon came to regret) and Cave Johnson has been stuck for years as just a giant robotic head, unable to move and with absolutely nobody to speak to. When he meets you, he begs for you to kill him. Your shenanigans lead to him falling through the floor to his supposed death... but a postgame scene reveals that he's still alive down there, still stuck, and now attached to a hyper-advanced Mantis energy generator, implying that he won't get to die for a very, very long time - if ever.
  • Unexpected Character: Who would have expected a Prequel Tech Demo to have an appearance from none other than Cave Johnson himself? Not as a recording, but the man himself? While not in the flesh, the fact that his consciousness is stuck in a gigantic robot body like what would happen to his assistant in the main games, is also quite the revelation and surprise.
