  • Awesome Moments: Holmes has ignored Watson's protests about going solo for most of the story, and he ignores him again while preparing for a case involving an opium den, assuming that Watson simply has no idea how horrible London can be. Then, as Holmes tells Watson the doctor has no experience with the horrors of opium dens, Watson casually reveals that he's actually ventured into one after someone twice. The detective is shocked, infuriated, and fascinated all at once that his fellow lodger has managed to hide something this staggering from him for half a year. Watson cheerfully recounts the dangers of both instances as he helps Holmes with his makeup. By the end, the smug detective is utterly dumbfounded.
