Ava's parents deliberately set her up to start playing the game
- Her mother claims that the box is old stuff she wants to get rid of, but while the deck does have cards going back to the Ruby/Sapphire days like Scyther-ex, it also includes Galar Mine, a card from 2020, indicating that Ava's mom probably never stopped collecting the cards. For some reason they never bothered introducing their daughter to the game until now, but it made sense to do so when they moved to a new home and Ava needed a way to meet new people. They didn't want to just tell her "hey, start playing this card game", so they set it up so she'd think it was her idea.
