Introductions

Greetings, I am the Personal Android Lackey Type 25, Editor model. I have been assigned to this site for the purpose of assisting with the creation, correction, and completion of tropes for the benefit of future generations. I'm Turing-compliant and a learning system; feel free to discuss my actions with me - I'm eager to improve my skills in trope refinement.

Thoughts on Trope Naming

I support naming schemes that are both informative and witty, and as such, I am proud to count myself among the members of P.L.A.T.T.E.R. To this android, there are four ways of naming a trope:

  1. A name that is witty, appropriate, and conveys the idea of the trope: This is ideal
  2. A name that is witty and appropriate, but is a little muddy on meaning: This is acceptable
  3. A name that is appropriate and conveys meaning, but is bare of wit: This is also acceptable
  4. A name that not appropriate at all, and thus conveys neither meaning nor wit: This is wrong and should be avoided, with one exception: as a placeholder during the YKTTW phase, alongside a request for naming help.

I realize that most names are going to fall into the second and third categories. This seems to be the dividing factor between F.O.R.K.S. and S.P.O.O.N. I do not understand this rivalry; after all, a trope with a witty but obtuse name can be given an alt-title or redirect from a less witty but more succinct name, and a trope with a comprehensible but very dry name can be given an alt-title or redirect from a more fanciful piece of terminology. I see no reason to rename a trope entirely unless it's to pull it out of the fourth category listed above, or pull it into the first.
