• Very Loosely Based on a True Story: The first two fanfics in the series are largely based in the real-life death of the author's father.
  • The author's notes on If I Saw You in Heaven talk about the inception of the story, and refers to the song Tears in Heaven as a primary inspiration. In that vein, the title of the story, as well as the "chapter title" provided by the host website, reference the lyrics of said song.
    • So does the "badge" granted to the protagonist at the end of the story: "Beyond the Door" and "Push through denial to find peace" refer to the lyrics Beyond the door / there's peace I'm sure.
  • The other reference in the badge at the end of the story, "+1965 bits", is a nod to the author's father's birth year of 1965.
  • The author's notes also explain the name "Treasure Trap" being Silver's father's Equestrian name, referring to the author's father working at a live-action role-playing company called Treasure Trap at a Yorkshire castle in the early 1980s.
  • At the end of The Horizon Behind Us, Silver Star states that the day his father died, his instant messaging profile status contained a William Shakespeare quote. The author's notes confirm this to be true, and states that the message remains on the undeleted profile to this day.
