The producers were unable to reach an agreement for Peter Wingfield to reprise the role and understandably didn't want to leave Teal'c's vendetta with him unresolved. Had Tanith not been killed here, he would've almost certainly taken Zipacana's role in the following episode "Summit" and "Last Stand".
