Trivia / Jim Browning

  • Colbert Bump:
    • Jim was featured in a video for CBS This Morning about robocalls and cold-call scammers, and in a BBC Panorama documentary about a major scambaiting operation he carried out, publicly exposing the syndicate allegedly run by a certain Amit Chauhan. The latter was also covered by major papers in the UK—an indication of Jim's notoriety as a scambaiter. Needless to say, people have sung praises of him on the comments section, either lamenting about how there aren't more people like him or how these "bad apples" have made a wholly negative stereotype of India as a whole. His channel has also since seen a considerable spike in subscribers (hitting one million by May 1, 2020) and viewership.
    • Jim has also been the subject of a New York Times article where Indian-American journalist Yudhijit Bhattacharjee—who is originally a native of Kolkata—documented and confronted a small-time scammer who (unsuccessfully) attempted to con an elderly woman out of her money via a refund scam. A video of the scambaiting operation with Bhattacharjee can be found here.
