• Irony as She Is Cast: Kristen and Fenna can't communicate verbally, even by writing, because Fenna is a Dutchwoman who speaks little English and American Kristen speaks no Dutch. Their actresses are almost entirely the opposite, since Katja Herbers is Dutch and Alexandra Socha is American.
• Playing Against Type: Marti Matulis, who plays George and a number of other demonic characters on the show—and tends toward the monstrous and alien in general—plays an entirely human monk in this episode.
