- Abandonware: For a while the game was unsupported. Though the game was still up for sale, the community was still active and making mods and at least one of the devs kept an eye out on Steam forum discussions, the game didn't have a significant update from mid-2016 up until Christmas 2019 when development picked back up.
- Dueling Games: With No More Room In Hell, another Source-based multiplayer zombie shooter focusing on "slow zombies". The overall design and gameplay of both games is very similar, although No More Room in Hell is even more hardcore than Contagion; ammo is extremely scarce, the inventory system is pretty unforgiving, and melee combat is very risky due to the danger of becoming infected. Contagion is a bit more polished in terms of production values (which is to be expected, given that No More Room in Hell is a free mod), and also has PvP while No More Room in Hell is purely co-op focused. No More Room in Hell saw continuous development with plans of going into beta according to August 2018 news, while Contagion stayed in limbo from 2016 until almost 2020, receiving a huge update in April 2022 and another big one exactly one year later, in April 2023.
