  • Maka doesn't go visit Luz simply because Spirit is also going, which she feels guilty about later since it's not Luz's fault that their father drives Maka nuts.
  • Luz would love to go to the DWMA like Maka, but Camila is terrified about what would happen if she got hurt on a mission and always refuses.
  • It's clear that Spirit genuinely loves both of his daughters, but his vices make it hard to be an effective parent to them, especially since Maka's so frosty towards him that he can't help but overcompensate.
  • Amity still holds some affection for Willow, but tries to expose her cheating anyway, justifying it to herself as it being Willow’s long-term benefit.
  • Maka, talking to Soul while looking for their latest target, reveals that she just doesn't understand why someone would start killing people and eating their souls, and regrets not being able to eliminate some of their previous targets sooner, since that means that more people ended up dying.
  • When she and Gus nearly manage to get Luz out of Hexside, only to end up stopped by the barrier, Willow starts to berate herself, asking if she'll only ever be "Half-a-witch".
  • Eda panicking at the thought of Lilith looking for her at the Owl House, and being increasingly torn at the idea of sending Luz back to Earth.
  • Maka sitting in the hospital, worrying about Soul, who's in surgery. And then her father tells her that they were actually pretty lucky, all things considered.
  • When in Eda's sensory deprivation spell to try and get a handle on finding her Soul Wavelength, we see flashes of Luz's life, like a boy she was crushing on holding a card she spent hours working on between his fingers like it was a dead animal.
  • After an aborted curse transformation Owlbert has to basically force Eda to let him heal her, since she feels guilty that she has to leave it all to him.
  • When Maka gets back from Venice and Blair finds out that Soul is hurt, the magical cat clearly wants to try and comfort Maka, but the girl is so tired and worried about Soul that she rejects all of Blair's offers.
  • Eda pushes herself too far with the strain of making the barrier around the Owl House to protect it from the boiling rain, using the spell to help Luz get a hold of her Soul Wavelength, and using an illusion to hide the strain from Luz and King until she collapses upon casting the light spell for Luz, to the horror and worry of everyone else, with Owlbert in particular worried because he knows about the curse.
  • While Medusa gives Maka genuine advice to help her through her trauma over Soul's injury, the reader knows that her kindness is just a mask.
  • Luz's reaction when King tells her that true Magic like what a Witch can do is something forever out of her reach. Luckily she soon proves him wrong...
  • Luz learning the light glyph and doing true Magic is impressive, sure, but not only is Eda sincerely worried about how other Witches might react to the news, but Luz gets some angst at the idea that Magic will change her.
