Elliot: "I get it. I know what it's like.'
Olivia: "What?"
Elliot: "...hating yourself."

  • Whiterose's backstory is revealed, and it is exceptionally tragic. Her lover committed suicide in front of her once he realized that the two could never be truly happy together in their home country, and that their combined efforts to change the world for the better were for naught. Whiterose would adopt his rigorous dedication to time as well as his watch, and it is implied that her entire mission is born from her desire to reunite with him and see their vision for the future though.
  • Elliot runs into Krista by sheer happenstance as she exits a shop with her new boyfriend, and tries to tell her of his mental progress. Because Mr. Robot confessed to Krista about engineering Five/Nine with Elliot, she wants nothing to do with him, and harshly tells him off, warning that she will pursue legal action if he continues to associate with her. You can see the exact moment Elliot's heart breaks as he weakly tells her that he just wanted to thank her for helping him.
  • Elliot and Darlene's relationship is approaching a breaking point: when Elliot physically restrains her after she attempts to leave Allsafe, she is so incredulous of his true intentions that she can't even tell if it's him in control or Mr. Robot. Darlene asks if things will ever really change with him, and Elliot bluntly tells her no before leaving. Despite their many disagreements over the course of the series, it is upsetting to see Elliot and Darlene so disconnected at such an emotionally crucial point in their lives, especially when Darlene is trying her damndest to be the rock that he needs and he doesn't even remotely care.
    • The weight of the situation is not lost upon Mr. Robot either, as he shares this observation during their break-in of Olivia's residence:
"There's no word for it, you know? There's 'orphan', 'widow', 'widower'. So what do you call someone who's lost everyone? Mom, dad, sister, girlfriend, friends. A survivor, or a walking time bomb? Elliot thinks the more he restricts everyone's access, the less vulnerable he'll be, but there's a trade-off that he's forgetting: if you block everyone, then what's the point of being here? Of doing all this? Of existing?"
