  • Paulinus' heroic sacrifice. He's a tax collector, not a soldier or a warrior, but he tells the others to escape by the Sparrow's Way while he takes another route that he saved for himself since it can only be used by one. That other route is to open the door to their attackers and create a diversion for the others with death.
  • Evicatos killed a man in his youth and as a result is exiled for life from his tribe. He dies at the end without ever seeing his people again.
  • Pandarus is a former gladiator who won his freedom but doesn't know how to function in normal life. Fortunately for him, he meets Justin who can offer him an adrenaline-packed job as a resistance member, but how many other gladiators in Roman culture earned their freedom only to find that their experiences scarred them from every enjoying a normal life?
    • Pandarus dies in the final battle with Justin at his side.
  • A good sort of tearjerker, the Eagle that Marcus brought back in [1] that was retired due to the disgrace of the Ninth Legion is resurrected for a short while and has one last triumph as the standard of Flavius and Justin's ragtag legion before being buried under rubble and lost till the modern day.
