Tear Jerker / Freakish

• Grover's teary decision on whether to kill or let Mary loose amongst the freaks. After the high school survivors agree with Barrett to keep testing her so they can better understand the freaks, Grover is conflicted. Although the episode ends with Grover tearfully attempting to kill Mary, he eventually enlists Diesel's help to set her free in the next episode.
• La Shawn momentarily mourning Noodle's death.
• Natalie's sacrificial death. She recently made amends with Zoe and starts a relationship with Diesel, only for her to be injected with poison and eventually sacrifice herself to the freaks. Her heroic sacrifice is arguably the most heartbreaking scene in season 1.
• Zoe breaking down after La Shawn's death. She is stricken with sadness, especially after her best friend died days ago. After Barrett reveals he killed La Shawn, her "The Reason You Suck" Speech towards Barrett is both awesome and a tear jerker.
• Violet breaking up with Grover.
• Grover crying in front of his house.
• Grover and Barrett believing that the high school survivors are dead after Ollie Keller gets saved from the school. Grover never resolved anything with Violet, which makes him experience a bout of Heroic BSoD.
• Violet's brutal death. Zane is heart stricken, understandably so because he just rekindled his relationship with Violet, and aside from Grover, deeply cared for her. Also when you realize that Violet wasn’t canonically dead when Grover finds out she's "dead", it's even more heartbreaking.
• Barrett not wanting to leave Grover when he gets shot, and his emotional breakdown moments after. Their friendship buildup is so natural and they understand each other a lot more, hoping to expose the horrors of Keller Chemical and what they have done to Kent County, which is why Barrett eventually breaks down inside a hardware shop after his guilt, in the form of Grover Jones, keeps guilting him.
