For the most part this is subverted, as Mario likes to let the readers know who's going and why before the votes are even cast. These are the exceptions:
- (2008) Hawaii:
- Frank gets the Jerri treatment come the merge and is unceremoniously kicked out when Rob decides to secure his position with Alicia and force his alliance into doing the deed.
- Despite Alicia having final two deals with all but one person left come the final four, her final two deals decide to take her out over Vecepia.
- Alaska had Silas, Elizabeth, Kelley, Tammy, Tom, and the mastermind behind all their eliminations, Greg Buis.
- Greece had Linda and Hunter (again, ouch!)
- Tonga had... Mario Lanza himself.
- Okinawa:
- After spending all of a day framing Amy for various misdeeds, Christopher's elimination comes down to the wire, with Lance only catching on to his plotting at the last second and Hogan swinging to save Amy (despite his crush's wishes) at Tribal.
- For Ryan to be eliminated before he can cause chaos, a member of the Kamiya tribe'd have to willingly give Sato (the opposing tribe) the chance to take over the game by tying it up. Despite that, he's flipped on by one person at tribal, generating the reaction you'd expect.
- When forced to choose between eliminating her friend and her showmance, Joni kicks her showmance out.
- Isabella and Michelle are unable to agree on who to vote out between Mike any Amy, so a tie is forced. Michelle ends up being the one sent out by random chance.
