Series / La Venganzadelas Juanas

Go To

5 women of different backgrounds all find themselves connected by a birthmark in the form of a fish on their lower back, realizing that they all share the same father but having no real clue on who he is. After they coincidentally meet at the same resort in Cancun, they all resolve to find out the truth about their pasts. As they uncover their mothers' story, however, they soon realize that their mothers were taken advantage of in one way or another. This prompts them to seek revenge on the person that destroyed their mothers while dealing with their own personal demons and a patriarchal society that excuses and protects abusers.

The five Juanas are:

  • Juana Valentina de la Paz: An investigative journalist who begins the series fresh off the revelation that the man raised as her father was not really her father. After her mother dies of cancer, she finds that her birth certificate listed her birth father as unknown.
  • Juana Bautista Mai: A woman from Yucatán gifted with clairvoyant abilities who receives visions of others’s futures and pasts. She struggles with the unsolved death of her mother in a car wreck, which she witnessed as a child.
  • Juana Manuela Bravo: A stripper and pole dancer who begins the series with a strained relationship with her mother. She moved to the Canary Islands as a teenager and did a year-and-a-half stint in jail, which she blames her mother for.
  • Juana Caridad: A nun-in-training who was raised in a convent after her mother allegedly got addicted to drugs. She helps young vulnerable women out of sex trafficking by disguising them as nuns and evacuating them from their situations with forged papers to start new lives.
  • Juana Matilde Heredia: A singer from a small, rural town in Colombia. Raised by her grandparents, Matilde longs to find her real mother, who left Matilde when she was 9 to pursue a singing career; since then, Matilde only ever heard from her mother through postcards she was sent.
