Recap / Thunderbolt Fantasy S 1 E 4

Go To

Kichou uses fire to draw Kei Gai out of hiding, managing to persuade her to join his party after bringing up the Tengyouken. Meanwhile, Renki, Kichou's master who possesses the Soul Echo Flute needed to make it through the labyrinth leading to the Demon Spine Mountain, is attacked and killed by the Screaming Phoenix Killer, Setsu Mu Syou. He steals the flute and awaits Kichou's arrival. Setsu Mu Syou tries to provoke Kichou into fighting, but he refuses to do so. Instead, Syu Un Syou and Ken San Un attempt to fight against Setsu Mu Syou but are both easily outmatched, prompting Kichou to call a retreat.

Tropes:

  • Foreshadowing: He mutters that he's going to have to clean up after his disciple before fighting Setsu Mu Syou.
  • Near-Death Experience: Syu Un Syou was nearly killed by one of his arrows that was meant for Setsu Mu Syou. Luckily, he manages to save himself by catching it for a split seconds.
  • Ship Tease: When Tan Hi attempt to help Ken San Un and Syu Un Syou's fight against Setsu Mu Syou, Syou Fu Kan grabs her hand to stop her from getting herself killed. He tells her to never draw her sword in front of Setsu Mu Syou ever. Ken looks a bit confused and unconcern when he saw them.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Kei Gai wants nothing to do with the party and even less with the party's ringleader, but as a demon she is particularly at risk should the holy sword be made whole again and so is willing to help.
  • Too Cool to Live: His first and only fight shown has him perform some really, REALLY cool sword tricks before being Impaled with Extreme Prejudice by Setsu Mu Syou.
  • You Didn't Ask: She rages and rants about Kichou's wrongdoing and her refusal to aid the party, without ever confirming what Kichou needed her help for. As it turns out, a legendary holy blade that could possibly kill her definitely trumps her feud with the man.
