Jarod tries to locate the family of a baby he finds in a dumpster. Miss Parker, Sydney and Broots begin to unravel the secret of "SL-27".
This episode contains examples of:
- Hollywood Darkness: When Miss Parker, Sydney, and Broots are exploring the abandoned SL-27, they have only flashlights to illuminate the darkness, but the audience can see the entire scene dimly lit. Among other things, this lets the audience see their reactions to what they discover.
- Insistent Terminology:Jarod: You're a garbage man?
Axe: Sanitation engineer. - Missing Floor: Officially, the Centre has 26 sub-levels. There is another, secret sub-level — SL-27 — which doesn't appear on the Centre's floor plans and is accessed through a hatchway that's supposedly for sewer access.
- Secret Other Family: When Christine is recounting her parents' shortcomings to explain why she doesn't feel ready to become a parent herself, she mentions that her father was rarely around because, it turned out, he preferred to spend his time with his other family on the far side of town.
- Stealth Hi/Bye: Jarod and friend-of-the-week Christine take an abandoned baby Jarod found to Child Services, but, while they're waiting in a crowded, noisy waiting room full of unhappy people, Jarod starts to think it would be better if he looked after the baby himself. Christine, following his line of sight, realizes what he's thinking and starts to say something encouraging, then turns to find he's already disappeared.
- Super Cell Reception: Miss Parker receives a cell phone call while she's in an abandoned basement room twenty-seven floors underground.
