The Snare

David is invited to millionaire Michael Sutton (Bradford Dillman)'s private island. What he thinks will be a quiet day or two of rest and a friendly chess competition between two well-versed players turns into something much more sinister.

Tropes for the Episode:

  • Cowardice Callout: After Sutton drugs David and dumps him in the forest overnight with only a bag of food and some flint, David calls him out for not playing his own game fairly.
David: You've no right to call yourself a hunter, Sutton. A real hunter plays a fair game. You're a coward. You're afraid of a fair game. You only care about winning. That's all you want out of life, isn't it, Sutton, to win?
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In his second confrontation with the Hulk, Sutton accidentally gets a leg hurt by the poisoned tip of one of his arrows, what leads to his Karmic Death.
  • Hunting the Most Dangerous Game: Sutton, a wild game hunter, observes David's transformation into the Hulk and becomes obsesses with adding the creature's head to his trophy wall. To that end, he forces David to become his prey while he hunts him down with a rifle.
Sutton: Please let me kill it, David!
  • Tastes Like Chicken: A mild example. Sutton cooks and serves David dinner upon their arrival at his home. David finds it a bit unusual.
David: I don't believe I've tasted chicken like this before.
Sutton: Hmm, I'm not surprised; there's no way that you could have. You see, it's rattlesnake. My own recipe, but I think I may have put in a bit too much curry tonight; I'm partial to curry.
  • This Page Will Self-Destruct: While leaving Sutton's property on a boat, David finds a tape recorder and plays Sutton's posthumous farewell message. By the end of the message, the recorder explodes. Thankfully, David is clever enough to leave the device on the deck while the message is playing.
