In Kamina City, the riot goes on. Simon, blamed by the mob and arrested by Rossiu, awaits trial.
The following day, Leeron is trying to figure out how to contain the explosions due to the Mugann being destroyed. He gets an an idea after Attenborough spins Leeron's seat around.
During the trial, presided by Rossiu as judge, Simon is sentenced to death. Kittan argues that the trial isn't fair. However Rossiu insists that someone must be held responsible, and that someone is Simon. All of a sudden Nia shows up to state that the Anti-Spirals want absolute despair, so humanity has no hope of survival. As she touches Simon's face, he notices that she still wears the engagement ring he had given her. After Nia disappears, a large Mugann shows to attack and destroy Littner. Simon offers to go in Gurren Lagann to stop the Mugann. Rossiu allows this. As Simon prepares to launch, he is joined by Kinon, who has volunteered to go with him with explosives attached to her waist. As Gurren Lagann engages the Mugann, Rossiu announces to the city the following:Simon has been tried and sentenced to death, and the government will have the people take refuge in the thirty-six underground shelters. As for Kamina City, which has no underground shelter, its population will board the gigantic vessel found underneath the Government building: the Arc-Gurren.
Gurren Lagann tries to destroy the large green Mugann, but both an image of Nia appears to bid him goodbye, causing the smaller ones to surround him. Using the Giga Drill Maximum, Simon manages to destroy them. However the green Mugann survives. Gimmy and Darry lead the Graperl squad as they use Leeron's new inventions to destroy the green Mugann and contain the explosions.
Afterwards, Simon is sent to Licarne Prison to await being executed. It is there that he encounters Viral in his cell.
