Gashadokuro leads Usagi and his friends to the battlefield where Miyamoto Usagi's sword was lost. Unfortunately it turns out to be haunted by the ghosts of the armies that fought there.
Tropes:
- Ancestral Weapon: While Yuichi Usagi's normal sword was a family heirloom with a piece of the Keystone on the hilt, it was not the sword Miyamoto Usagi used to chip the Keystone in the first place. That sword, named Willow Branch, was lost when the courier carrying it got caught in the middle of a pitched battle.
- Empathic Weapon: When the swords of the fallen are summoned many of them speak to Yuichi, Willow Branch itself doesn't speak, but makes its point clearly enough.
- Forever War: The ghosts of the red and white armies have been fighting for the past thousand years without end. Even though their villages have long since been absorbed into a single thriving city.
- Gashadokuro: Being a yokai formed from the bones of those who fell in battle, his knowledge proves useful to Usagi and friends. After the ghosts pass on he is allowed to use their bones to form a new body.
- Neutrality Backlash: The red and white leaders demand that Usagi and his friends side with one of them, or die!
- Walking the Earth: After Gashadokuro builds his new body he announces that he plans to walk the Earth and visit the sites of the all the battles he missed while sealed.
