Recap / Parks And Recreation S 06 E 07

Go To

Leslie tries to distract herself from the recall vote by decorating City Hall for Halloween. Ann and Ben work overtime to keep her distracted. However, when the results come in, Leslie has been recalled. She is so depressed that she has lost interest in her appearance, her health, and the haunted house. She and Ben get drunk and decide to get tattoos. Before they can accomplish this, Ann talks them out of it, reminding Leslie of the things she has already accomplished and stating that she can still get a lot done in the thirty days before she leaves office.

April is feeling especially miserable without Andy because Halloween is "their thing". Chris tries to cheer her up, but it doesn't work. She later apologizes to him and calls him and Ann a cute couple.

One of Ron's handmade chairs has been featured in lifestyle magazine Bloosh. Donna and Tom convince him to go on Pawnee Today to discuss his chair with Bloosh author Annabel Porter. Tom hopes to impress Annabel enough that she will feature his business in the magazine; his competition is driving him out of business. Ron has no interest in mass-producing his chairs, and Annabel declines featuring Tom's business in Bloosh.

Tropes

  • Anti-Climax: The department settles in for a long night of what promises to be a close recall election, only for it to be called as a blowout by the end of the first act.
  • Halloween Episode
  • Heroic BSoD: After being recalled from city council, Leslie gets very down in the dumps for a while.
  • Ignored Aesop: Ron tells Tom he refused to sell the rights to mass-produce his chairs because, in the end, his good name is all that will remain when he's gone. Tom then proceeds to sell his good name — that is, the Rent-a-Swag trademark — for some sweet seed money for his next venture.
  • Running Gag: Leslie saying, "Ann, you..." before lavishing really weird-sounding praises on her:
Leslie: Ann, you poetic and noble land mermaid, you're right once again.
  • Shout-Out: Leslie and Ben are dressed as Buttercup and Wesley from The Princess Bride.
