NCIS tracks down The Chameleon, also known as Marcel Javier, in order to rescue a captured agent.
- Multi-Part Episode: The episode ends on a Cliffhanger, with Callen shooting Javier and Hetty resigning to shoulder the blame, that leads directly to the events of the following episode.
- Playing Both Sides: Javier, once apprehended, demands a ransom in addition to a safe release in exchange for contacting the Israeli agents that have agent Cherokee and safely returning him. However, Callen is suspicious, and he turns out to be correct when the team learns he also sold the Israelis the identity of agent Cherokee in the first place.
- Vigilante Justice: The episode ends with Callen, refusing to let Javier just walk away with his profits after he's responsible for the deaths of fellow agents, pull a gun on him after Cherokee's return. Javier planned for this, and set the exchange near a live news report, which quickly notices the commotion and starts filming them so Callen can't just kill an unarmed man without consequence. Callen fires anyways, and gets arrested.
