Recap / My Little Pony 'n Friends E53: "The Quest of the Princess Ponies 3"

Go To

The heroes are thrown in prison by Lavan's guards, and are paid a visit by Sludge. An angry Spike gives him a thrashing until Sludge is able to get in a word edgewise and explain that he wants to help them defeat Lavan, since his boss treats him like garbage and is probably going to end up destroying the world anyway. G'nash suggests a truce to the lava demons' and ice orcs' old feud, and Spike helps them share a handshake by proxy to overcome the issues that they can't touch each other.

Meanwhile, Megan and Tiffany are forced to stop searching the desert for the dropped locket by the growing dusk. The pair heads to the Moochick, whose magic is also going haywire, in hope for advice, and Megan explains the current state of things to him. Lavan, meanwhile, absorbs the last of the wands' magic and becomes a fully crystalline being, and goes more than a little mad with power in the process.

After Megan gets the Moochick caught up, his turns armchair into a monster due to Ponyland's rampant magic and tries to eat him. His magic is too weak to deal with it and they have to flee the house. As they try to figure out what to do next Habbit pantomimes getting the Book of Lost Answers, but there's a problem — the book is still in the house, where the living chair is gorging itself on the Moochick's worldly possessions. Habbit gets the others to go around the house and the Moochick uses magic to float book outside. The tome, once consulted, says that the princesses need to use the wands to defeat Lavan — a problem for numerous reasons, not least of which the fact that Lavan still has them — and find the Heart of Ponyland once they have them. When Tiffany asks how they're supposed to do that, the book — somewhat unhelpfully — only says that "in your heart you know the way, and then you must all work together".

Meanwhile, the other princess ponies, bushwoolies, G'nash, Sludge and Spike arrive at Lavan's throne room and find the wands drained of power. Lavan bursts in, announces that he now possesses the wands' power, and blasts them with a beam of light.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends in a dramatic explosion caused by Lavan's magic beams colliding with the ground the heroes are standing on.
  • Exposition Cut: Once Megan and Tiffany get to the Moochik's house, Megan launches into an explanation of what has happened so far. The episode cuts to Lavan and the other group of heroes shortly after she starts, coming back to her thread of the story once she's finished catching the Moochick up.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Sludge turns on Lavan partly because his boss is violently abusive and partly because his plans will likely destroy the world with Sludge in it.
  • Title Drop: As he's blasting the Princess Ponies with his rainbow beams, Lavan dramatically announces that "this is the end of your quest, my little ponies!"
  • Villain Song: "Here's to Power", in which Lavan sings about how much he loves about holding power for power's sake and giving orders for the sake of bossing people about.
