Recap / Monkie Kid S 1 E 7 Impossible Delivery

Go To

Pigsy challenges MK to deliver an order in an allotted time. MK goes through obstacles that challenge his focus in order to accomplish his goal.

Tropes:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: The main plot of the episode is for MK to defy this trope by learning how to focus on one thing and tune out all distractions. It becomes crucial when Pigsy threatens to replace him with a robot if he fails the latest delivery.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Monkey King trying to teach MK lessons in focus and responsibility is this, as noted below, much to MK's frustration.
  • Mythology Gag: When MK points out how Monkey King is the last person to be calling himself a master of focus, he references events from the original Journey to the West story, namely about the antics Monkey King got up to in heaven.
MK: Literally your entire legacy is about you being impulsive and dodging responsibilities!
Monkey King: Mm, That’s where you’re wrong.
MK:: That time you ate all the immortal peaches you were meant to guard?
Monkey King: That was a long time ago.
MK: When you kept annoying everyone in the celestial realm?
Monkey King: That’s a matter of opinion.
MK: THE TIME YOU PICKED A FIGHT WITH BUDDH-(is cut off)
  • Secret Test: At least, MK assumes this was Monkey King’s purpose for ordering noodles.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: After almost an entire episode of struggling to maintain his focus in delivering noodles, MK finally delivers the noodles to Monkey King... Only for the episode to end with the King saying it was the wrong order.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: When MK discovers the one who placed the noodle order is Monkey King and assumes that the whole thing was a lesson in focus, Monkey King has this response.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: Apparently, MK ended up summoning an entire nightmarish forest from his own anxieties, as he points out once he manages to get his focus in check.
