Superman receives a call from Belle Reve prison where the most dangerous powered Super Criminals are held. Superman's enemy the Parasite has been kept in custody, but he's been patiently draining the life from cockroaches to get strong enough to start attacking the human guards.

Superman arrives and Wonder Woman with him, to lend him a hand. The two of them manage to make short work of the Parasite, and Jimmy Olsen arrives just in time to see them close the doors on his security vehicle. Jimmy asks for footage for the Daily Planet but Superman scolds him gently that the law enforcement officers are busy with important work. Jimmy reacts with only mild disappointment since that's an excuse he can take back to an insistent Lois Lane.

A meteor falls from the sky and lands on the security van, destroying it completely and leaving a crater in its wake. Superman spares a moment of thought for Parasite's demise. Wonder Woman's take on it is pragmatic: the world is better off without a power stealing repeat criminal.

Unfortunately, the meteor was not just a falling space rock. It was one of the four Djinn brothers Black Adam released. He begins wreaking destruction around Metropolis. Wonder Woman soon gets her lasso around the Djinn and demands to know his plan. He insists he'll never talk but the magic lasso is stronger and the Djinn blurts out that he and his brothers want to crack the mantle of the earth, returning it to its pre-human population state, whereupon they will rule.

The battle is joined, but short. Superman ...and then Wonder Woman... realize they're growing weak. They can't fly. Their strength is waning. Then the Djinn tells them what they were beginning to realize anyway: the Parasite wasn't killed in the “meteor strike”. The Djinn picked Parasite as a target specifically for his power stealing abilities, and he now has absorbed significant amounts of Superman and Wonder Woman's powers.

Superman and Wonder Woman back off for a bit and the Djinn continues his path of destruction, heading for a volcano to activate it. When the heroes return, the Djinn laughs at the idea of them bringing him more powers. What he wasn't counting on was the hero they brought along this time was the Martian Manhunter. The Djinn absorbs the Manhunter, and gets all his powers – but also his weakness, an incurable phobia of fire. The Djinn, while freaking out about this, remarks how ironic and weird it is to be afraid of fire since he's made of fire. He eventually releases his hold on the parasite to be free of the paradoxical terror he was experiencing, and is easily defeated by the three heroes.

  • Batman Gambit: Turns out Superman and Woman brought Martian Manhunter on purpose for the Djinn to absorb since he’s weak to fire. And since to Djinn is made of fire…
