We open with Kelly watching a video of she and Grandma Quinn baking chocolate chip cookies, reminiscing of the good memories they had together before she was cursed. Her parents console her, telling her that they won’t give up and keep looking for the right doctor to treat Grandma Quinn’s supposed “illness”.

At school, Kelly tells Darbie that she was up all night looking through the cookbook, and that said cookbook literally never ends — as she kept flipping, more pages kept appearing. Hannah then approaches them to tell them she can’t hang out after school due to a test on the American Revolution the next day. Darbie notices Carmela, the new exchange student from Barcelona and introduces herself in Spanish to her. Carmela assumes she’s fluent and begins rapidly talking in Spanish to her. The girls walk away, since all Darbie knows how to say in Spanish is ‘mi amo Darbie’.

Later after school at Kelly’s, the girls flip through the cookbook to find a recipe that can help them with their problems: Kelly wants to understand the cookbook, Hannah wants to ace her test (although she’s already good at History) and Darbie wants to speak Spanish fluently. They eventually find a recipe called “Brain Boosting Bolognese”. Needing two ingredients called Livonian sage and Taurian thyme, they make a trip to Mama P’s. Kelly accidentally drops the cookbook, which Mama P notices. She acts suspiciously nonchalant as she questions the girls about the book. Giving them the ingredients, Mama P whispers that thyme is precious and they should use it wisely.

The girls cook the bolognese. Adding in the magic ingredients, Kelly deduces that unlike Cedronian vanilla, there is no price to be paid and that each spice has its own rule. The fine print on the bolognese recipe says, “How long will this spell last? / Stretch it out or end it fast / A pinch of thyme will do / Too much will leave you in a stew”. Playing it safe, they only add a little bit of thyme. As the girls wait for the spell to work, Kelly keeps track of the things they know about magic on post-it notes taped to the back of her mirror. Downstairs, Buddy sneaks a taste of the bolognese.

In the morning, Kelly is shown frantically writing down notes and that the back of her mirror is now completely covered up with them. Hannah now knows even the smallest of details about the American Revolution and Darbie is now fluent in Spanish and is getting along well with Carmela. Meanwhile, Mama P visits a newly-opened competing restaurant down the block. She offer cookies to feign kindness. Finding Ms. Silvers sitting there, Mama P tells her that she’s going to get the cookbook back from Kelly, Ms. Silvers warning her to leave the girl alone.

In class, the three are now shown to be insanely smart. Mr. and Mrs. Quinn are called over by Buddy’s teacher to show them a model sculpture of the White House made out of popsicle sticks that he made. Meanwhile, Kelly writes math formulas on the windows, Hannah questions America’s educational system and Darbie is disturbing class by speaking Spanish with Carmela in English class as well as insulting their teacher in Spanish. This ends up with all three girls in detention. As Hannah formulates a plan to escape their situation, the spell suddenly wears off.

The girls resort to continue cleaning up the library, but find an old yearbook from 1964 in the process and decide to check it out. They discover that Grandma Quinn, Mama P and Ms. Silvers were friends, and in the picture of them together, Mama P’s bag holds the cookbook even though she claimed to never have seen it before. Later at Kelly’s, the girls find out that the cookbook is at least 500 years old, coming to the revelation that the book is definitely not Grandma Quinn’s. Buddy also returns back to normal and destroys his White House sculpture.

Mr. Quinn and Grandma Quinn stop at Mama P’s for coffee. As Mr. Quinn orders his coffee at the register, Mama P interrogates Grandma Quinn and tells her that one way or another, she’s going to get the cookbook back.
